Honoring Media Professionals and Journalists in North-East Syria

Summary:
On April 24, 2019, a meeting celebrating World Press Freedom Day was held at ASO Center, in cooperation with the Union of Syrian Kurdish Journalists along with attendance of the Federation of Free Media in Rojava.

The meeting stressed the importance of media's role in building societies, fight-against extremism, denouncing hate speech, overcoming obstacles in media institutions, and adhering to international conventions concerning media and its personnel, and protecting journalists in conflict areas. Discussions were also held on the current status of media work, press freedom and its practice in the region.

At the end of the meeting, a number of media professionals from various media institutions operating in North-East Syria were honored.
