Summary:
Within the series of dialogue sessions held by ASO Center for Consultancy and Strategic Studies, ASO Center held a discussion session related to The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against (CEDAW).Among the Participants in the workshop were civil society activists, who became more familiar about this convention's history, the signatory countries, its principles, its importance and the extent to which states are committed to, in addition to the international procedures that oblige states to implement the provisions of the convention.
A short film was presented during the session, and the central role of women in various life aspects and the importance of enhancing this role were discussed as well.
Furthermore, the workshop focused on achieving community monitoring of violations methods and documenting them in parallel shadow reports which are recognized and discussed internationally.
The training also included mini-workshops, where participants addressed the violations and discrimination encountered by women in the region and how to eliminate them. The participants had a demonstrated interest in the subject, which was embodied by their interventions and discussions.
The attendees stressed the importance of women's independent personality through self-realization learning about their role as being active members of society by raising awareness and prompting civil society organizations' role in activating women's role in building and developing societies.
At the end of the workshop, participants received appreciation certificates, and they expressed their desire to work on eliminating all different forms of discrimination and violence against women through their work in legal and human rights fields, which they will focus on in the future.
