Erdogan and the Dream of Returning the Legacy of the Sick Man

2020-03-28
Writer: Jumaa Khazim
The dream of Erdogan of returning the sick man legacy he has long dreamed of, seems to have failed for several reasons; his many stakes and indulging in many conflicts in the region, along with the largest number of those who oppose him compared to the few loyalists. In addition to internal confusion, his recklessness and vanity.
Erdogan had a dream hoping to achieve when nearly a decade ago the Arab Spring erupted. He viewed himself as the ruler and perhaps the “Sultan” of the entire Middle East by growing hopes and strength from the Islamic movements support. Perhaps the sole reason behind this interesting and unusual transformation in Turkish politics that brings together all researchers and observers of the Turkish issue, is the "megalomania" that afflicted Erdogan and made him seek building his new Ottoman empire, even if that was on the ruins of the whole region and even if he shed the blood of its people. What is important for him is to realize his false dream at any expense.
This dream steeped in desire is the cause of all the incurred hostilities and issues towards Erdogan and the appearance of large number of opponents. It seems that he will only wake up when he finds himself out of power in the upcoming elections 2023, unless the conditions of the world evolve in light of unexpected developments. Although, he recently has carried this dream to the NATO summit in London in order to ally with opponents and fight allies for the sake of one goal which is the unduly expansion outside the borders of his country and his fearless attitude of the consequences that may affect him from other countries.
The Turkish regime, which was involved in Syria since the beginning of the events in 2011, under the pretext of supporting the struggle of the Syrian people, has made its borders a passage for the entry and exit of terrorists from all countries of the world. Believing that it can manipulate contradictory alliances once with America and once with Russia. As well as, thinking it was deceiving Russia by requesting the intervention of the United States, consequently, obtaining a Russian air defence system, as Erdogan made threats to Russia after the Syrian army entered Idlib, being already aware of the fact that Russia is an active party in the confrontation against his groups there.
The Turkish Fox and the Russian Trap:
The Turkish President Recep Erdogan insists on falling into traps he sets for himself, although he perceives the repercussions of his policies in Syria and other countries he is interfering with. The traps are also set by Russia, which threatened not to interfere in Idlib, however it seems that the Idlib battle is one of the end battles of the Ottoman Empire
The madness of Erdogan and his recklessness, more than ever, brings more material and human losses. Likewise, pushing the situation to further deterioration that not only will Turkey suffer from rather perhaps the fire will expand to burn the hands of many players with the fire of the Syrian war. Whereas, the Syrian forces are determined to liberate their occupied lands whether from Turkey or its supported terrorist organizations.
Turkish Scapegoats in Idlib raise the voice of the opposition:
The opposition inside Turkey is growing after news spread about the strikes that the Turkish forces and its allies have received, which Erdogan pushed to save the rest of his prestige in Syria. Thus, he no longer has the trust of America, Russia or Europe and few countries are left who finance his adventures which puts him in the trap of reducing his links and also is reflected on the economy and politics internally and externally.
It seems that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is involved in the ongoing events in Idlib, especially after revealing his inability or desire to fulfill his obligations in both Astana and Sochi, including the agreement reached in September 17 in 2018 with the Russian President Vladimir Putin which calls for the separation of terrorist groups from the so-called "opposition."
The inability of the Turkish President to fulfill his obligations towards Russia and its allies is, to some extent, due to his membership in the Atlantic Compound. As he has never expressed his desire to leave this gathering; on the contrary, he remained bound by the NATO, consequently by the United States from which he requested logistical support. It seems that the Pentagon began to interpret this option by praising the role of the regime of Erdogan for what he called “confronting” Russia and enticing it logistically with unique relations, in case of coordinating cooperation against it, both bilaterally and within the framework of NATO, as General Todd Walters, the commander of US forces in Europe, had stated. As a consequence, this confirms that the United States always has alternative options to spread destructive lawlessness in order to meet its colonial interests in the world. Thus, it gives attempts to lots of schemes in Syria, as it perceives weakening Syria and keeping it in the whirlpool of war as the main gateway for passing its projects in the region.
The Sultan and the Idlib maze
Idlib war revealed what everyone had been feeling for a long time; the vast and impossible-to-fill chasm between Moscow and Ankara over Syria. It was filled due to disrespect of Turkey of the agreements that took place in Sochi and were only a way to gain time and save as much terrorists as they could against the allies of Moscow. For the Russian aviation have punished the extremists and the result was the death of many terrorists and soldiers of the Sultan. Turkey has returned to what it does best which is seeking protection from the countries of Uncle Sam, despite all the military support for the protection of the terrorists in Idlib and after its surprises against the Syrian reaction and Russian stubbornness. The naïve, who waste their time, believe that Erdogan can move from the NATO circle, as Ankara is now requesting Patriot missiles from the United States to remove Russia from the airspace of Idlib, therefore, this can be conceived as an American attempt and an entry by the “Empire.”
Although, last year Turkey announced its rejection of an American offer regarding the purchase of the "Patriot" missile system for air defence, in the midst of the ongoing discussions between the two countries, and purchased the Russian "S-400" missile system, however, it returned today seeking American assistance by purchasing American Patriot defence system on its southern border in order to hinder any future attacks by the Syrian forces backed by Russia.
The Turkish request comes at a time when events are raging in the Syrian territories between the opposition backed by the Turkish party and the Syrian forces backed by Russia on the other hand, the conflicts of which started regarding the interference in Idlib. It is determined to confront the Syrian forces even if it is at the expense of strained relations with Russia regarding tourism and trade.
The confrontation between the two parties appears to be threatening to cause a rift in their relationship and pushing Turkey to reform relations with the United States after years of tension and after paying heavy losses from the Turkish army recently in the Idlib battle after the killing of tens of Turkish soldiers in raids carried out by the Syrian army.
