NGO Platform of CSOs in Northeast Syria Accomplishes the first Dialogue Session on the Economical Situation in NES

The participating civil organizations in CSOs platform in NES organized a dialogue session with a range of CSOs, last Tuesday, within the project’s second phase of promoting the approach to democracy in NES.

The dialogue session, which was dedicated to discussing economic conditions in NES, also highlighted COVID-19 pandemic implications on the economic situation in NES.

38 civil organizations operating in NES participated in the dialogue session, with a proportion of 29% from Al-Hasaka governorate, 32% from Deir Ezzor governorate and 39% from Raqqa governorate, noting that the meeting was held through Zoom application.

Moreover, civil organizations representatives discussed Caesar's Act implications on the economic situation in NES, as well as, proposals and recommendations that could contribute to mitigating the economic crisis.

Organizations participating in the meeting operate in protection, education, agriculture, health, capacity building and safety building fields, as well as in early recovery, nutrition, shelter, studies, researches, media and camp coordination and management.

The participants suggested that the Self-Administration in NES should fix prices, activate specialized institutions role, follow up prices, hold monopolists accountable, support and facilitate building projects for people of the region and support the agricultural sector.

Likewise, launching projects directly supervised by international organizations that help develop the region’s economy, which is considered the most stable if compared to other regions in Syria. In addition to reopening crossings with NES areas in order to deliver humanitarian aid.

The dialogue sessions aim to establish a permanent dialogue between the platform members. Furthermore, to enhance CSOs role in highlighting issues and challenges facing NES at all levels and to suggest appropriate solutions to them.

On July 5, CBOs Platform in NES completed a dialogue session on the challenges against civil organizations in NES, in which representatives of civil organizations discussed the internal and external challenges facing local organizations in NES. The platform held the interactive session physically, while adhering to preventive measures imposed to limit COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
