Awareness-raising Sessions on the Mechanism of Protecting Property Documents in Washokani Camp

2021-02-01
ASO - Amouda

ASO for Consultancy and Strategic Studies conducted awareness-raising sessions on the mechanism of protecting property documents and ownership and housing rights in Washokani camp in al-Hasaka countryside in NES.

ASO Center implemented 5 awareness-raising sessions regarding cases of proving the ownership of the displaced in their homeland of origin; being from Serekaniye in al-Hasaka or Tell Abyad in Raqqa and who currently reside in Washokani camp, as the two cities are occupied by Turkish forces and the Syrian factions loyal to them.

These sessions were attended by 200 displaced, most of whom were Heads and members of local communes in the Self-Administration in NES for their effective role within the camp and between the displaced.

The trainees are supposed to share the information they received in the awareness-raising sessions among the displaced in Washokani camp
The sessions were supervised by Omid Abdo, who is a trainer in the field of capacity building and works in ASO for Consultancy and Strategic Studies. He explained the types of real estates, their classifications and legal stages of protection, in addition to elaborating the methods to which one can prove property and housing rights and their protection mechanisms.

Abdo also provided a detailed explanation on property rights in Syria in terms of items, laws and the documents which the displaced should possess to prove their ownership.

He also discussed with the participants their opinions on property rights and ownership documents and the convenient examples to benefit from the experiences of the others in this case.

Moreover, the participants provided a set of recommendations that mostly focused on the necessity to, “Conduct such sessions periodically in order to raise awareness on protection of documents, to target all of the other camps in NES and address other awareness-raising subjects that benefit the displaced on their rights.”

It is worth mentioning that the awareness-raising campaign on the mechanism of protecting property documents is part of the activities of the Advocacy department in ASO for Consultancy and Strategic Studies. As they aim to spread awareness among the displaced about the necessity to protect their property documents and papers that prove their ownership and their real estates in their homeland, enhancing the concept of protecting rights and real estate property and the method of protecting them until their comeback to their homes.
