NGO Platform of CSOs in Northeast Syria Accomplishes a Dialogue Session on the Health Sector Situation

The member civil organizations of CSOs Platform in NES held, on last Monday, dialogue sessions with a number of civil society organizations within the second phase of promoting the approach to democracy project in NES.

The dialogue sessions on the health sector situation in NES, continued for three days in Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Al-Hasaka governorates.

43 representatives of civil society organizations in NES participated in the meeting, with a %35 percentage from Al-Hasaka, %30 from Deir Ezzor and %35 from Raqqa governorates.

The discussions dealt with several axes related to the health sector situation, including an overview of the health sector situation in NES and challenges it confronts. In the conclusion, participants presented a set of proposals and recommendations.

Each of the participating organizations at least operate in two humanitarian fields. The largest percentage of which work in protection, Education, agriculture, health, capacity building, peace building fields. On the other hand, the lesser percentage operate in fields of non-food items, early recovery, nutrition, shelter, studies and researches, media, camp coordination and management.

Challenges, during the dialogues, focused on the following, “challenges related to specialized medical staff, challenges related to health facilities, challenges related to medical devices and equipment, challenges related to the pharmaceutical sector and medical materials, economic challenges, political challenges and challenges related to Corona virus.”

Participants called on donors to increase support for the health sector by providing grants to organizations operating in that sector. In terms of securing health centers and equipping them with the necessary medical tools and equipment, equipping hospitals, ICUs and quarantine centers. As well as, equipping them with the necessary medical tools and sterilizers and providing devices for Corona virus detection.

They, also stressed the need to rehabilitate medical staff, including paramedics and clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) working in the Self-Administration bodies, to open crossings for medical aid to enter the NES and to grant licenses to establish pharmaceutical laboratories in the region.

Representatives of civil organizations indicated the need for coordination and networking among platform members in carrying out joint awareness campaigns by establishing awareness teams in all areas, disseminating scientific health information about the epidemic, its causes and how to prevent it and responding to rumors and misinformation.

The dialogue sessions aim to conduct a permanent dialogue between the platform members and to strengthen civil society organizations role in highlighting issues and challenges facing NES at all levels and proposing appropriate solutions to them.

On 28/07/2020, the member civil organizations of CSOs platform in NES accomplished a dialogue session with a number of civil society organizations within the second phase of the project to strengthen the democratic approach in NES on the economic situation in NES.

On July 5, the CSOs Platform in NES have accomplished a dialogue session on challenges facing civil organizations in NES, in which civil organizations representatives discussed the internal and external challenges facing local organizations in NES.

The platform implemented the dialogue session physically, while adhering to the preventive measures imposed to limit COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
